Quick Summary

IncFile definitely takes the win here thanks to its reasonable low-level package features, its great customer reviews, and the fact that it manages to do great in places where LegalZoom falls short.

IncFile was established in 2004, and is now one of the most reputable LLC formation companies in the industry. Its ascent had been well deserved, based on a solid operating philosophy, one of the best pricing packages, and a loyal customer base of over 250,000 businesses served.

LegalZoom is also a pretty experienced company. Its services go beyond LLC formation and registration into providing help with other legal affairs such as filing a trademark application, writing a will, creating a trust, filing bankruptcy and so on.

Both companies do share enough to be competitors, though, and in this post we take a look at some of their differences, similarities, strengths, weaknesses, and what makes each stand out not only from each other, but from competition.

Pricing

IncFile offers three pricing packages. But unlike most, it wins over a lot of hearts thanks to an unbelievably comprehensive free package. Its three classified packages include a

Silver Package that is free plus state fee, a gold Package for $149 plus state fee, and a platinum package for $299 plus State Fee.

Incfile Pricing

LegalZoom has a tiered pricing package that begins with the “Economy” package, and then the “Standard”, followed by the “Express Gold” package. The economy package is priced at $79 + $50 CO Filing Fee, standard package at $329 + $50 CO filing fee, and the express package at $349 + $50 CO Filing Fee.

The obvious distinction between both packages is Incfile’s amazing free package and its numerous essential features. LegalZoom’s express package is not so different from the standard package, and offers a lot of value for its cost.

Incfile vs LegalZoom – Functional Differences

We take a look below at some of the fundamental differences between IncFile and LegalZoom below:

1. Turnaround Time (Speed) – IncFile offers a relatively fast turnaround time in all its packages, including an expedited service in its premium package. LegalZoom has an estimated turnaround time that is average on the higher level packages, but really mediocre on the lower levels.

2. Customer Service – Both companies have amazing customer services. But where LegalZoom offers a customer support available both weekdays and on the weekends, IncFile offers support only on weekdays.

3. Registered Agent Service – IncFile gives a free one year Registered Agent Service in all its package levels, whereas LegalZoom does NOT offer Registered Agent Service as part of its packages, available only as an add-on for $299 per year.

4. Ease of Use – This is at the same time an advantage, and a disadvantage for LegalZoom. Its website seems to well-optimised for desktop users, but not for mobile users. IncFile offers a well-optimized, easy to use platform for all mobile phones and computers.

Similarities

1. Experience – IncFile was established in 2004, while LegalZoom was established in 2001. While a three-year difference is usually a significant one in the industry, both companies seem to operate at the same level of maturity and dedication, and as such, the final verdict here is that both are virtually similar when it comes to experience.

2. Help Resources – Both sites offers helpful guides and resources.

3. Order Tracking – Both sites provide effective online tracking as part of their packages.

Customer Reviews Comparison

IncFile has a 4.6 ratings out of five on Better Business Bureau (BBB), and a 4.8/5 score on Shopper Approved.  LegalZoom, on the other hand, is not as well-reviewed. It has a low score of 1.7/5 on TrustPilot, based on 52 verified reviews.

Here are some excerpts for both companies:

LegalZoom:

You cannot contact this company

You cannot contact this company. It’s impossible. I’ve tried calling a dozen times, and they never call me back – they just pretend to call back and then immediately hang up so you can’t answer. Complete scumbag tactics from a horrible company.

Thank you for holding….for eternity

I used legal zoom to form an LLC. The address was wrong in all the documents. Getting them to revise internal documents that had nothing to with state notification was impossible and of course I had to do all state amendments myself.

“I had an issue with a report that I had filed and received a call from Andrew in a very timely manner and he cleared everything up for me and got me the documents that I needed. He went above and beyond than expected and I greatly appreciated it.”

July 22, 2018 by Susan H. (CA, United States)

“I normally get my corp filings from another company, but after purchasing a corp thru Incfile.com, and how fast I received everything, this is my new go-to for legal business filings. Highly recommend!”
